The Tell Tale Heart Short Story Analysis

In a story called, “The Tell Tale Heart” there is a narrator and throught the story he trys to murder an old man because, of his evil eye. His craziness drives him to tell us about the murder. The narrator reveals his true self through a description of what he feels like is a justified murder the old man.

The narrator’s instability drives him to plan out the murder of the old man and his unreliability leads him try to convince the reader his actions do not make him unstable “̈How then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily — how calmly I can tell you the whole story.” (Poe 6-8) This connects because, he is trying to tell us that he is not mad when he really is.

His paranoia drives him to confessing to the police about the murder of the old man and how he killed him. “No doubt I now grew very pale; — but I talked more fluently, and with a heightened voice.

Yet the sound increased — and what could I do? It was a low, dull, quick sound” (Poe 27-28) This connects because, this is when his paranoia jumped in and told him that the police herd the sound as well.

The main character was crazy, mad and insane before he met the old man and murdered him.  “̈Many a night, just at midnight, when all the world slept, it has welled up from my own bosom, deepening, with its dreadful echo, the terrors that distracted me.” (Poe 12-13) This connects because, this proves that he had dreams of madness before he met the old man.

In the end the narrator can show us that craziness can take over and could give something away. Today this craziness could still take over could do something worse.

A Poem

                                           Hope

Hope is the place you want to go,

Hope is the person you want to know,

Hope is the feeling that carries you through,

And hope is the future for me and you.
